Innis & Gunn Rum Cask

I have been a fan of Innis & Gunn Original for some time now, so recently, when I found small stockpile of different Innis & Gunn beers in my local liquor stores, I decided that it would be a good idea to try them all out.


Secondly, I wanted to find out more about I&G brewery.
Established in 2003, its beer has gone on to be the most popular British bottled beer sold in Canada, and second most popular in Sweden.
The beer was originally developed as a way of flavoring the barrels used by distiller William Grant for its ale cask reserve whisky.

The “Rum Finish” is, as its name suggests, matured in rum barrels, is my favourite.
How can I sum up Innis & Gunn Rum Cask? The colour is a deep ruby, with a completely different taste to a hoppy ale. On several occasions, pouring the brew, the head behaved very curiously. The head didn’t last after pouring, but then regrew afterwards. Bizarre!!!

I have enjoyed several of Innis & Gunn’s other oak aged beers, the Original, has a sweet, bready smell with sweet toffee malt. There is a fruity, with a little spiciness, and the obvious hint of vanilla.

So when I noticed this “Spiced Rum Finish” I just had to try it. As I sipped it I could really get the taste of spiced rum and a rich dried fruit aroma. This brew definitely will warm you up on the cold wintry days at home. (sipped @ Room temperature... of course)

I’m just discovering that one of these small 330 milliliter bottle is adequately strong for a weekday evening drink. Makes you feel like a connoisseur.
